In April, C.A. Dean Hospital went through its annual licensing and certification review from the State of Maine Department of Human Services, Bureau of Medical Services division. The review also included checking compliance with federal regulations for Medicare participation. The process involved a team of professionals from the state, with representation from registered nurses, pharmacists, medical doctors, and facilities specialists, assessing C.A Dean practices and conformity with state mandated regulations governing the licensing and operation of hospitals. All hospital departments are scrutinized regarding adherence to policy, performance improvement activities, safety, quality of care, patient records, and human resource management. Surveyors also look at governance and medical staff by-laws.
This year's evaluation resulted in the most favorable outcome in more than ten years. The state team identified only one item that required a plan of correction. This one item related to the timeliness of a signature by a healthcare professional on a report.
The team leader for the state survey team presented the groups findings and recommendations to the management team and board members stating that it was a pleasure to be part of such positive survey and recognized the organization's extraordinary efforts in performance or quality improvement, and also had words of praise for Dean's swing bed or transitional care program, calling it a model program.
Geno Murray, president and CEO said, "We are very proud and pleased with the results of this licensing survey, C.A. Dean's accomplishments and achievements are directly attributable to the hard work and organizational support from all staff, managers, medical staff and the board of directors." |
