Emergency Department

The Emergency Room at C. A. Dean is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This department is well equipped to handle any medical emergency. From first aid to fractured bones to heart attacks and other medical traumas, our professionals can handle your crisis needs.

Our Emergency Room is part of a statewide Trauma Network that allows ambulance crews to provide quick and coordinated services to accident victims, some of whom may be several miles or hours away from the nearest hospital. Modeled after the trauma network systems devised during the Vietnam War, this organized process gets patients out of the field, stabilized, and evacuated to the closest hospital emergency room as fast as possible. By administering pre-hospital medicine and evaluation in the field, this saves time for emergency room personnel and precious minutes for the patient.

In the event that further care is needed, Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) in Bangor serves as one of three trauma centers in Maine. With it comes two LifeFlight transport helicopters, one stationed in Bangor and the other in Lewiston. These helicopters can fly to a medical facility when emergencies call on them. The Moosehead Lake Region is no stranger to these services. In the recent past, we've transported accident victims and patients with severe heart conditions.
